The Jester
18” x 24” oil on canvas, 2018.
The Jester, also known as the trickster, or the fool, is an archetype that uses humor to illuminate hypocrisy, and also level the playing field between those of power and those without. Many believe the Jester to be the lowest tier of society. However, in his position, he is free from the burden to conform. He sits upon the throne to reveal that the authority figure has a mask and a snake for a tongue, representing lies and deceit. The exposed brain alludes to the exposure of authoritarian corruption, and the puppet body represents a disconnect from humanity.
